For 40 years, Hummingbird Associates has been inspiring orthodontists and their teams to chase their dreams. Now, I’m thrilled to be stepping into another season of my life, welcoming extraordinary consultants to join me in expanding Hummingbird’s sphere of influence as we embrace life and our work. Our team possesses an impressive depth and breadth of industry knowledge and business experience.
Hummingbird has always been known for its innovation, compassion and a relentless pursuit of excellence. As we continue to grow, and as we look ahead to new possibilities within orthodontics, that core value remains at the heart of all we do. With each passing year, we become wiser, more aware, and more innovative. We look forward to sharing all that is new in practice management with our clients and lecture attendees.
Speaking engagements in 2017 include the Dolphin Meeting in March in Nashville and AAO in San Diego—check out our Events page for further details! Tracy and I are lecturing together (Title: Embracing Change) Friday morning at 8:00am. Then I will be presenting Breathtaking Management Strategies at the AAO.
On a more personal note...as many of you know, I also spend time in India, working with Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) and supporting the unique international collaboration efforts of Amrita University. My work with this organization over the past few years has been quite an experience!
Because of Amrita University’s work using computers to train women in the construction trades, I was selected as a 2015-2016 Global Champion for Women's Economic Empowerment for Empower Women at the United Nations and awm no a Mentor for the 2016-2017 Global Champions.
I was also recently named as the CEO/President of Healthcare Charities, Inc. (HCI). Please let me know if you want to help purchase medical equipment for hospitals in India that provide care for the poor.
We recently launched The Amrita Live-in-Labs™ program, a multidisciplinary experiential learning program to expose youth from the west to problems faced by rural communities in India. Do you know any university students or faculty who would like to live in the poorest villages in India to do research, development, and deployment of sustainable solutions for their problems?
The United Nations has officially named Amrita University to host India’s first-ever UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality & Women’s Empowerment. The official bestowing of the UNESCO Chair took place before an audience of 8,000 people during a spiritual programme of the University's Chancellor Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi in Paris on October 30, 2016. I was honored to be part of the process of applying to UNESCO, being present in Paris for the announcement, and now working in the department. Over the next four years, we will identify vulnerabilities of women and girls in India as a result of security, education, skill-development, social and cultural environment, climate change, disaster risks and health and sanitation, and ways of addressing them.
My international collaboration work for Amrita University has also taken me to the Vatican twice. One visit to make arrangements for Amma to attend a conference on human trafficking and, at Pope Francis’ invitation, to join 11 other faith leaders in signing the Universal Declaration Against Slavery.
The second visit was to attend a landmark conference on Education for the Poor under the direction of Bishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo, chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
Also, Amrita University will be hosting the World Finals of the ACM-ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest) in Kochi, Kerala, India in August 2019. This will be the first time this prestigious event will be hosted in India. The brightest computer science students in the world come together to compete by problem solving and writing algorithms.
I truly delight in every moment I spend with orthodontic clients improving their practices and feel even more blessed at the opportunities I have to also volunteer in our global community where so much change and support is needed.
Please feel free to email us if there is anything we can do to help you become more successful. We look forward to working with you!
-Karen
